Around NL East Spring Training, 3/30: The Ageless Jamie Moyer

Nationals: Garret Mock pitched poorly today, but the fifth starter job for the Nats is still up in the air, for lack of decent competition. J.D. Martin and Scott Olsen are both still in the running. How poorly have these three pitched? Livan Hernandez is the presumptive fourth starter...Jesus Flores isn’t testing his surgically-repaired throwing shoulder yet...Cristian Guzman is working at second in preparation of losing his SS job to Ian Desmond.

Mets: Kelvim Escobar expects to rehab through April...Jose Reyes played in a minor league game...Johan Santana and Oliver Perez combined for 14 runs allowed today...The Mets claimed Braves’ reliever Manny Acosta off waivers. He will be sent to AAA Buffalo...RHP Pat Misch was waived...1B Daniel Murphy is receiving treatment for a bruised knee.

Phillies: Brad Lidge pitched one inning in an inter-squad game...Jayson Werth shaved his ridiculous beard, opting to stick with his familiar ridiculous goatee...Jamie Moyer was announced the team’s fifth starter over Kyle Kendrick. Kendrick will remain in the bullpen for long-relief and spot-starts.

Braves: Jason Heyward (shins) took BP today and could be in the lineup as soon as tomorrow...Juan Abreu was outrighted to High-A

Marlins: The Marlins traded for Tigers’ SP Nate Robertson today, likely relegating Clay Hensley to long-relief...Seth McClung was released...Tim Wood and Rick VandenHurk were optioned to AAA. Between these transactions and McClung’s release, the Marlins may fill their last bullpen spot via waiver claim or trade...Cody Ross may miss opening day with a trained groin.
