VIDEO: UNC Advances To NIT Championship Thanks In Part To Controversial Final Play

Here’s the scene from Tuesday night’s NIT semifinal game between UNC and Rhode Island: With about six seconds left in OT and UNC up one point, Larry Drew misses a shot. URI’s Lamonte Ulmer grabs the loose ball, heads up the court, but is tripped up en route to the basket. Ulmer falls to the ground, time runs out, and the game is over. UNC wins.

Only problem: Ulmer fell down because of an obvious (although probably inadvertent) trip by UNC’s Will Graves. According to the rules, a foul should have been called in that situation, whether the trip was intentional or not.

Here’s the video (and for a closer look at it, head to Yahoo!’s The Dagger):

Of course, there’s always the chance the refs just wanted the game to end, like the rest of us.
