It started like any other spring training Wednesday. The Minnesota Twins were split-squad, with one half playing the Rays and the other half playing the Yankees. The newly-extended Denard Span was set to bat leadoff against Phil Hughes and New York. Just your average meaningless exhibition baseball game.

↵It wasn’t just any foul ball. It was a foul ball that hit a spectator. A spectator wearing a Denard Span jersey. A spectator that turned out to be Denard Span’s mom.
↵Span’s mom is okay, and she has since returned to her seat, making this more light-hearted and less absolutely terrible. The take-home message? Depending on how Span’s mom was behaving and how loud and obnoxiously she was cheering, Denard either has the best or the worst bat control of all time.
