The Chargers have been dangling CB Antonio Cromartie for weeks and they've finally found a trade partner:
Antonio Cromartie Traded To Jets For Draft Pick
The Jets.
FOXSports.com’s Jay Glazer first reported the news and was quickly followed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter with more details. The Jets will send a 2011 third round pick in exchange for Cromartie. That pick could escalate to a second rounder dependent on Cromartie’s play and the Jets performance.
Rumors have been swirling this week that the Jets and Chargers were talking about a trade for Cromartie, so this did not completely come out of nowhere.
The Chargers grew sour of Cromartie’s supposed lack of effort while he claims he was playing the last year with an injured hip. Cromartie is entering the final year of his contract and the Chargers clearly weren’t going to keep him, so this is a win-win situation.
The Jets will have arguably the best tandem of corners in the NFL. Darrelle Revis is considered by many to be the finest defensive back and perhaps best player in the NFL. Cromartie has been slowed in recent years but demonstrated his ceiling with ten interceptions in just his second season in the league.
Guess this puts to rest the talk of teaming Revis up with Nnamdi Asomugha?
