Crew Chief Steve Addington Gets His Na-Na-Na-Na-Na Moment

Crew chief Steve Addington was unceremoniously dumped as Kyle Busch’s crew chief at Joe Gibbs Racing last season, despite a successful pairing in which they went to victory lane 12 times in two years together.

↵The first person to call when Addington was fired? Kyle’s older brother Kurt, who recruited the jobless Addington to join him at Penske Racing.

↵On Sunday, the new Busch/Addington combo won the Atlanta race, meaning Addington got there before Kyle.

↵So did he feel good about that? Well, hell yeah, he did.

↵“I think if I denied that, I would be lying,” he said. “You know, it feels good. It honestly feels good to be with this race team...and come back and win before the 18 car got a chance to win. That’s a personal deal.

↵“I’m still great friends with Kyle and everything. But it’s a good feeling. It’s a relief in a certain way.”

↵As for Kyle? He was gracious in defeat, saying after finishing 25th: “Only thing else I can say is congrats to Kurt and Steve – they deserve it.”
