Dion Phaneuf has played a total of nine games with the Toronto Maple Leafs since he was traded on Jan. 31. He has impressed his teammates and coaches enough that he has earned a letter. While it is not uncommon for players that have just been brought to teams to be named an alternate captain, it does show the influence that Phaneuf has with this team. ↵↵Phaneuf is one of the youngest defensemen on the Maple Leafs, second youngest behind Luke Schenn, and has shown that he has the skill to be an elite defenseman for Toronto. Now, he has the chance to showcase his leadership skills.
