2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 25

The 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft rolls on, with each SB Nation blogger making selections for their respective teams. Mr. MaLoR, a blogger at SB Nation's Baltimore Ravens blog, Baltimore Beatdown, checks in to make the No. 25 overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away, sir!

With the No. 25 overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Baltimore Ravens have selected Jermaine Gresham, tight end, Oklahoma.

MaLoR says: With Baltimore making moves to fill two needs at WR and on the D-Line, the Ravens continue to upgrade their passing attack by finding a tight end to bring along for the future behind Todd Heap. Gresham is the perfect type of player for a Ravens offense that is trying to stretch the field more often. Heap is serviceable for now, but he has become an injury concern over the last few years, and the Ravens do not have great depth at tight end already. Gresham's knee injury last year could be a concern, but by looking at his workouts and combine performance, you can tell that he is ready to go for OTAs and training camp. He is a huge TE, perfect for a team that has a very tall QB.

Baltimore passing on DE Jason Pierre-Paul is tough to do here because of how gifted of an athlete Pierre-Paul is, but the Ravens ignore the athletic freak and go with Gresham, who has had great production in a short time at Oklahoma.

Mocking Dan reacts: This is one of those surefire picks, like Atlanta taking Sean Weatherspoon. Dissenters may say it’s not a good idea to take a backup player in the first round. But Gresham is that good. Had he played in 2009, he’d almost certainly go earlier. Had he been in the 2009 draft, he would have been the first tight end taken.

He’s big, he’s physical and he has good hands. Great, great pick.

Mocking the Draft's Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - Everson Griffen/DE/USC, 2 - Ryan Mathews/RB/Fresno State, 3 - Charles Brown/OT/USC, 4 - Golden Tate/WR/Notre Dame, 5 - Bruce Campbell/OT/Maryland

Sound off, SB Nation! What say you of Baltimore’s selection of TE Jermaine Gresham? Please be sure to check out Baltimore Beatdown for all of your Ravens needs.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
