2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 26

The 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft rolls on, with each SB Nation blogger making selections for their respective teams. Andrew Schmidt, lead blogger at SB Nation's Arizona Cardinals blog, Revenge of the Birds, checks in to make the No. 26 overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away, sir!

With the No. 26 overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Arizona Cardinals have selected Terrence Cody, defensive tackle, Alabama.

Andrew Schmidt says: With linebackers such as Sean Weatherspoon, Rolando McClain and Sergio Kindle already off the board, the Cardinals would be reaching for any others that are remaining. With that being said, defensive tackle is a enormous need on the defense, and the Cardinals only have Gabe Watson signed, who has yet to prove he can be a valid starter. Adding Cody's massive size and strength would immediately improve the Cardinals' run defense, forcing opponents to bounce runs to the outside. He's a force to be reckoned with and will consistently draw double teams from opposing teams' offensive linemen.

Putting Cody in the middle would also improve the play of the inside linebackers that the team does have signed, meaning drafting Cody could improve more than one position. Although Cody has struggled with weight issues, the Cardinals have the best strength and conditioning coach in the league in John Lott, who would likely keep Cody in shape, and could add more muscle to his frame.

Mocking Dan reacts: Andrew makes a great point when talking about Lott keeping on Cody. But anyone who takes Cody is taking a risk. The issues with his weight and desire are well known. More than that, though, he’s almost exclusively a two-down player. Still, Cody is a good pick. If he’s not the pick, you have to imagine the Cardinals would go after an offensive tackle. With Charles Brown still being out there, that may have been a better choice.

Mocking the Draft's Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - Everson Griffen/DE/USC, 2 - Ryan Mathews/RB/Fresno State, 3 - Charles Brown/OT/USC, 4 - Golden Tate/WR/Notre Dame, 5 - Bruce Campbell/OT/Maryland

Sound off, SB Nation! What say you of Arizona’s selection of DT Terrence Cody? Please be sure to check out Revenge of the Birds for all of your Cardinals needs.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
