Around NL East Spring Training, 3/31: Murphy Out

Nationals: Cristian Guzman made his first career start at second base in preparation for becoming a utility infielder...The Nationals elected not to cut Scott Olsen. It’s a pretty inexplicable move, considering the last time Scott Olsen was any good. But for now, he’s still a candidate for the Nats’ rotation...Pitcher J.D. Martin was sent to AAA-Syracuse.

Mets: Jose Reyes is expected to be withheld the first week of the season and play his first series versus the Nationals immediately afterward...Jenrry Mejia might not make the Mets’ bullpen after all...Daniel Murphy is out 2-6 weeks with a grade one strain of his right MCL. Mike Jacobs will start in his absence...Pat Misch cleared waivers and was sent to AAA...Fernando Martinez was sent to AAA.

Phillies: Joe Blanton is being examined after injuring an abdominal muscle today....The Phillies signed Josh Fogg and Ty Taubenheim to minor league contracts...Brad Lidge had a cortisone shot, supposedly unrelated to his surgery.

Braves: Chipper Jones sat out with an ingrown toenail...Pigs were let loose in the Braves’ showers while bullpen coach Eddie Perez was bathing...

Marlins: With Cody Ross doubtful for opening day, the Marlins may be scrambling for a right fielder. If Ross is placed retroactively on the disabled list, Florida’s 40-man roster may have to be shuffled around.
