The next two days, as Michigan State, Duke, and West Virginia arrive in Indianapolis for the Final Four, the guys from Butler will be dutifully attending classes, just like any other Thursday and Friday. Because the Final Four’s being played in their hometown, Butler has no travel obligations, and thus, no excuse to miss class.
What’s The Point Of Making The Final Four If You Have To Go To Class?
↵Butler coach Brad Stevens and star player Gordon Hayward explain:
↵↵“Thursday we have practice at Lucas Oil (Stadium) and some mandatory media sessions, so we’ll shuttle guys back for some of their afternoon classes,” Stevens said. “Then Friday, a couple of our guys have morning classes before the open practice (at The Luke) at noon, so we’ll shuttle them back to campus.”↵“I’ve got a heavy load on Friday. Some guys don’t have anything, but I wasn’t as lucky with scheduling,” Gordon Hayward said. “I’m sure guys would have liked not having to go to class, but the upside, being at home and being around friends, that outweighs the downside.”
↵↵Friday morning classes? Even normal kids skip those. Maybe not at Butler, but at most schools, let’s just say it doesn’t take much of an excuse to skip class.
↵— Oh look, it’s raining. No class today!
↵— I’ve got class at three o’clock, and [insert big game] at seven. If I don’t take a nap from 3-4:30, I’ll be too tired to go to the bar before the game. No class today!
↵— Got laid last night… No class!
↵— Might get laid tonight… No class!
↵— Roomate’s driving to that off-campus Taco Bell. Class or Cheesy Gorditas? No class today?
↵Or you could just go with this one...
↵
— "WE'RE IN THE F—ING FINAL FOUR. Sorry Professor, but, um, I’m never going to class again."
↵Good advice for any college kids, but especially college kids in the Final Four: Go ahead and skip class. Savor the moment, guys.
