Like many of you, I was watching the Masters today via CBSSports.com’s live video feed. After Round 3 was over, the video feed had switched off, but the audio feed of Jim Nantz’s mic was still playing. And this, friends, offered some remarkable insight.

↵Most of his off-camera commentary wasn’t particularly noteworthy, although he did make a passable Sarah Palin impression. “You betcha! As our future president, Sarah Palin would say.”
↵But right before the broadcast started back up with a recap segment, Nantz uttered his trademark phrase: “Hello, friends.” He said it as a long, protracted, weary sigh, as though he resented it. This is the “television host hates his catchphrase” cliche, brought to poignant, real-life fruition.
