According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Dolphins are sending a second-round pick in this year's draft and a pick in the 2011 draft for Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall.
Brandon Marshall traded to Dolphins
Last season Marshall finished with 101 receptions for 1,021 yards and 10 touchdowns in 15 games. Miami's leading receiver was Davone Bess who had 76 receptions for 758 yards and two touchdowns.
The acquisition of Marshall should accelerate the development of quarterback Chad Henne, who started 13 games last season.
It should also accelerate a trade of wide receiver Ted Ginn, the ninth overall pick in the 2007 draft.
Miami gave up the 43rd overall pick and a pick next year to obtain Marshall. There is a sentiment that Seattle was the leading suitor for Marshall until they swapped second-round picks with San Diego moving to the No. 60 spot.
Schefter is speculating the second pick in the deal will be a second rounder in next year’s draft. Marshall is flying to Miami today to take a physical. The NFL also has to approve the trade. Neither are expected to hold up the trade.
Update: Schefter says Marshall will get a four-year, $47.5 million contract extension with $24 million guaranteed. That’s a ton of money for someone who can be considered a malcontent.
