2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Pick 62

The second round of the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft is winding down. We're having each SB Nation blogger make selections for their respective teams. Gonzo, lead blogger at SB Nation's Minnesota Vikings blog, Daily Norseman, checks in to make the No. 62 overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away!

With the No. 62 overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have selected Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
Gonzo says: There was never a genius without a tincture of madness. - Aristotle
Yep, I’m doing it. I’m pulling the trigger. Bring forth the hate mail. I’m making Tim Tebow the second-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, and their quarterback of the future.
Am I crazy for making this pick? I suppose it’s entirely possible. But it really isn’t every day that you get an opportunity to draft the guy that might be the greatest player at his position in the history of college football. And it’s really, really, foolish to try to argue with Tebow’s production at the college level, as I’ve said myself on my own site on more than one occasion. Is the guy ready to be an NFL quarterback right now? Heck no. . .not even close. But for the Vikings, this isn’t a pick for “right now.” This is a pick for 2011 and beyond. Yes, I’ve heard everything about Tebow not being able to read NFL defense or how he has a terrible throwing motion and everything else.
All of those things are coachable. The work ethic and dedication to his craft that Tebow brings to the table are not. Neither is the way he oozes confidence and leadership ability. 6’4”, 230 pounds with very good mobility really isn’t coachable, either. And even if Tebow isn’t ready to step in at the quarterback position for the Vikings at this point in time, he could have an impact in other places while he learns the NFL game, much like he did as a freshman on one of the University of Florida’s recent National Championship teams.

It’s entirely possible that the NFL Draft has never had a more controversial prospect than Tim Tebow. And in this scenario, he’s now a Minnesota Viking.

Mocking Dan reacts: Whoa. Those are some massive cajones, so bravo. In this scenario, jaded Jaguars fans thank you. In fact, every other team probably thanks you. Make no mistake about it, everyone want to see how Tebow is going to develop. They just don't want their team to be the one taking him. There have been rumblings the last couple days that Tebow may be the Vikings' option in the first round. With that in mind, I guess this could be a steal?

But in the end, Minnesota is the kind of team I expect to take a chance on Tebow. They're good enough to take the risk. The reward could end up being massive. Or non-existent.

Mocking the Draft’s Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - Rob Gronkowski/TE/Arizona, 2 - Brandon Spikes/LB/Florida, 3 - Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida, 4 - Toby Gerhart/RB/Stanford, 5 - Brandon LaFell/WR/LSU
Sound off, SB Nation! What say you of the Vikings’ selection of Tebow? Please be sure to check out Daily Norseman for all of your Vikings needs.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
