Following an excruciating 20-inning contest with the Cardinals Saturday night, in which two batters and a starter pitched, the Mets designated first baseman Mike Jacobs for assignment, allowing them to call up righty Tobi Stoner for bullpen relief. Now, it seems the Mets have chosen top-prospect Ike Davis to replace Jacobs as the Mets' starting first baseman, with last year's first baseman, Daniel Murphy, still on the shelf:

John Sickels ranked Davis as the fourth-best prospect in the Mets farm system before the season. He impressed fans and management with a monster spring, in which he hit several impressive bombs. The Mets gained another year of team-control on the 23-year-old Davis by keeping him in the minors for the first few weeks of the season. Whether he remains the first baseman after Daniel Murphy is activated from the disabled list will likely depend on his performance.
