Strained Hamstring Puts Conor Jackson On The DL

Diamondbacks outfielder and first baseman Conor Jackson injured himself making a play on Sunday afternoon, and is headed to the 15-day DL:

The Diamondbacks placed left fielder Conor Jackson on the 15-day disabled list Monday, another blow to the team's lineup.

Jackson injured his right hamstring when he ran in to catch Will Venable's fly ball to end Sunday's seventh inning against the Padres. An MRI exam Monday revealed a strain.

The good news for Arizona is that this isn't a major injury, and it didn't happen to anyone of considerable value. However, Jackson was a starter, and with the team already missing Miguel Montero, they don't really want the injuries to start piling up. They're already in last place in the NL West, and in a tight race, a team needs good health.

Jackson was 12 for 45 before getting injured, with six walks but no homers. 22 year old Gerardo Parra will fill in in the meantime. The lefty Parra runs well and makes contact, but struggles with plate discipline and doesn't hit for much power.
