Alessio Sakara Wants The Respect He Deserves For Beating James Irvin

Though Alessio Sakara defeated James Irvin at UFC on Versus 1 last month, much of the credit, or blame, was given to Irvin’s inability to make a smooth transition to 185.

↵But “Legionarious” ain’t having that.

↵In speaking to MMAmania.com, the Italian middleweight fighter shared his opinion on the fight, and why he feels as though people aren’t giving him enough credit for the win.

↵↵“It’s an important victory and another step forward in my career, but obviously I was a little disappointed because, as everybody knows, I’m always looking for a knockout in my fights... Maybe cutting weight was a little hard for Irvin because it was his first time at 185, but we have to drop the same weight. You think he’s the only one who had a hard time because of the scale? The day of the weigh-in, I lost 9 lbs. If you look at my video blog I was struggling to talk! I don’t wanna be disrespectful, James Irvin is a nice guy, but in my opinion he seemed slow and stiff as his usual. I just got in the cage with the best strategy.”

↵↵The guy does have a point. Not many people gave props to Sakara after the fight and instead put all the blame on Irvin. But that’s three wins in a row now for Alessio, and as he states in the interview, a match up with British striker Michael Bisping is what he’s eyeing next.

↵But whoever is placed in front of him, “Legionarious” seems determined to put on a show.
