It's been a long journey for Scott Feldman, but Texas' 2010 Opening Day starter rewarded the team with a breakthrough 2009, and the Rangers, in turn, have rewarded Feldman with a brand new multi-year deal:

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Rangers have reached an agreement with pitcher Scott Feldman on a two-year contract extension.
Feldman was already signed for 2010. The new deal reworks his contract for 2010, signs him through 2012 and adds a club option for 2013. The right-hander will receive $2.425 million in 2010, $4.4 million in 2011 and $6.5 million in 2012. The Rangers’ option for 2013 is worth $9.25 million with a $600,000 buyout.
Feldman will receive the same amount of money in 2010 as was previously agreed upon, but now has cost certainty in the future as well. The contract buys out his remaining years of arbitration, and the 2013 option is for his first year of free agency.
Feldman made 31 starts and three relief appearances a year ago, throwing 189.2 innings and allowing just 87 runs. The sinkerballer doesn't induce a bunch of strikeouts, but he's able to keep the ball down and, by virtue of throwing a cutter, work well against lefties and righties alike. Though he's no ace, the Rangers clearly believe in him, and along with newly acquired Rich Harden, Feldman hopes to lead a promising Texas team from the mound.
