Some UFC event and venue news came about last night.
UFC On Versus 2 Set For August 1 In Utah, UFC 117 on August 7 In California
First, reports surfaced that the UFC has officially requested to hold an event on August 1 in Salt Lake City, Utah. MMAmania.com has more on that story:
The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting that according to Bill Colbert, the director of the Pete Sauzo Utah Athletic Commission (PSUAC), the UFC has officially requested to hold a Sunday night event at EnergySolutions Arena on August 1 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Colbert also stated that the event will air for free, live on Versus, making it the second UFC event to air on the cable network.
Then, MMAjunkie.com broke news that the UFC is looking to hold UFC 117 in northern California, presumably in Oakland.
August 7 will feature a traditional UFC pay-per-view event, UFC 117, in “northern California,” a source close to the organization said.
That “northern California” city may be Oakland; the show is expected to feature UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen. Although bout agreements have not been signed for the title fight, a source close to one of the competitors said the 19,500-seat Oracle Arena could host the PPV-televised fight.
Keep it locked to SB Nation for more news on these two cards including fight announcements as it becomes available.
