VIDEO: Yankees Turn First Triple Play Since 1968

With two on and none out in the bottom of the sixth, A’s backstop Kurt Suzuki came to the plate against CC Sabathia looking to extend Oakland’s 4-2 lead. He swung at a first-pitch changeup out of the zone, though, and pulled a sharp grounder to third base. So close to third base, as a matter of fact, it allowed for some history to be made. The combination of the runners, the outs, the proximity of the batted ball to third, and Suzuki’s being a catcher allowed the Yankees to turn a 5-4-3 triple play, their first triple play in 42 years.
