The fellows at The Copper & Blue continue to track scoring chances in the Colorado - San Jose series. Last night’s game was very different on the scoreboard compared to the rest of the series, but the scoring chance ratios remain the same:
Avs - Sharks: Game Five Scoring Chances
The Sharks announcers talked about how well Paul Stastny was fairing against Joe Thornton and how well Matt Duchene was playing overall. I guess they can’t talk about the Sharks’ domination at even strength when the series is 2-2, but the chances don’t lie - the Avs’ top two lines have been in trouble for most of this series. Game five was a little different in that Duchene held up better because he was out against Manny Malhotra and his new linemates Dany Heatley and Logan Couture, rather than Joe Pavelski. Duchene posted a positive Corsi and his best measure in the Chances department. Stastny? Still struggling against top minutes with inferior wingers. The Avs only have one legitimate top six forward and the Sharks are exploiting those overmatched forwards.
The Copper & Blue don’t think there is much left to this series without Craig Anderson playing like Dominik Hasek. Does Anderson have it in him to take this series back to San Jose?
