The 9-7 Detroit Tigers are sitting in a decent position because they've done such a good job of hitting through the first tenth of the year. They'll have to get by for a little while without their starting DH, though, as Carlos Guillen is headed to the disabled list:
Freak Strained Hamstring Leads Carlos Guillen To The DL
ANAHEIM -- The Tigers will be without outfielder Carlos Guillen for at least two weeks. Guillen left Thursday's win over the Angels with a left hamstring strain after he slipped and fell on his way toward home on a would-be RBI single.
Guillen - who's hit .311/.391/.443 in the early going - didn't feel a pop, and managed to walk off the field under his own power. However, the strain is still sufficiently significant to keep him out of action, which is bad news for Detroit and good news for 25 year old Brennan Boesch, who's coming up from AAA to take Guillen's place. Boesch has hit .379 so far this year in AAA, and slugged 28 homers for AA Erie in 2009. Boesch will find himself in the starting lineup on Friday for his Major League debut.
Injuries have been a problem for Guillen throughout his career, and between 2008-2009 he managed to play in just 194 games.
