San Jose teammates Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski each have a unique nickname referring to their size. At 6’ 4”, 230 pounds, Thornton is known as Jumbo Joe and the 5’ 11”, 190-pound Pavelski goes by the moniker of Little Joe. Makes sense, but it might be time for a handle reversal where the size of their postseason contributions, not height, tells the tale.
Joe Thornton And Joe Pavelski Should Trade Nicknames
↵After eliminating the Colorado Avalanche in six games, the Sharks’ best player was Pavelski. The 25-year-old had eight points, two game-winning goals and an equalizer in game two which earned San Jose an overtime win. Meanwhile, Thornton has mustered up just three assists while the likes of Dwight Helminen, Scott Nichol and Manny Malhotra have scored a goal.
↵I hereby proclaim Pavelski to be the new Jumbo Joe and Thornton to rightfully be labeled Little Joe from here on out. Unless of course the former Boston Bruin decides to live up to expectations. In retrospect, maybe Thornton should have shot at the empty net on Saturday rather than passing to Douglas Murray. That would have been a good start for Jumbo Joe Little Joe.
