You may recall a story that sat in this space last week, in which a writer at the Montreal Canadiens official website said it would be wise for the team to actually lose Game 4 of their first round series with the Washington Capitals.
So It Turns Out That ‘Crazy’ Canadiens Writer Was Correct
↵Here’s what was written, listed as one of the “keys to the game.”
↵↵Lose Game 4: While it might sound crazy, un-winning the fourth game of this series might put the Capitals exactly where the Canadiens want them. Adept at blowing series leads, just as they did last spring when they squandered a 2-0 series edge before bowing out to the Penguins in the second round, the Caps have assembled quite an impressive collection of epic meltdowns over the years. When it comes to blowing 3-1 series leads, no team compares to the Capitals.
↵↵That “key” was removed rather quickly after publication, and the writer was likely reprimanded for putting it out there on the site. I passively called the writer “crazy” as well.
↵But, uh, in the wake of the series, which concluded last night with the Habs beating the Caps in a decisive Game 7, should we be patting this guy or gal on the back? The Habs lost Game 4 in a 6-3 rout, and right on cue, Washington choked away three straight games. Season over, Montreal moves on.
↵Kudos, anonymous PR staff writer, and sorry for calling you crazy that one time.
