Barcelona Really Hates Other Teams Celebrating On Their Pitch

Barcelona is widely recognized as the best team in the world this year, and who can disagree with all the wins and titles and a little guy named Messi leading the way. Yet despite the fact that Barca beat Inter 1-0 yesterday afternoon in the semifinals of the Champions League, they needed a 2-0 result to advance, losing to the Jose Mourinho-led squad 3-2 on aggregate. ↵↵And that’s where the fun begins. Mourinho is a confident fellow, taking shots at Barca in the press in the days leading up to the match. After his team secured a spot in the European title match for the first time in nearly 40 years, the man they call The Special One did his best Jim Valvano impersonation, running around the pitch like a madman in an effort to celebrate with the Inter faithful who made the trip. One player wasn’t a fan of Mourinho’s histrionics, as Barca goalkeeper Víctor Valdés tried to stop the proceedings, by accosting Mourinho. ↵

↵↵Mourinho was rather diplomatic after the match, telling reporters: ↵

↵↵⇥“I was celebrating with my fans; it is my right to do that,” Mourinho said. As for the loathing of the Barcelona supporters, he shrugged it off. “If I came here and lose all the time, they love me,” he said. “I always say that the team that wins all the time, it is very difficult for them to lose. I was a bad loser when I came here and lost 2-0 in the group stage.”↵↵↵Of course when grabbing a coach by the arms and smacking him in the head fails to stop a team from celebrating on your turf, just turn on the sprinklers. That’s exactly what the Nou Camp grounds crew did, making the Inter celebration that much more picturesque.↵

↵Dirty Tackle likened the celebration to ↵Singing in the Rain, but it reminded me more of the gasoline fight in Zoolander. And seriously, the Barca fans could totally use an orange mocha frappaccunio to cheer themselves up right about now. ↵
