Let there be much rejoicing in Boston and Seattle: 20 years after retirement and three years after death, Dennis Johnson has finally been recognized by the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Report: Dennis Johnson (Finally) Named To Basketball Hall Of Fame
↵From WEEI:
↵↵The official announcement is expected on Monday. Johnson led three teams to NBA championships, including the 1984 and 1986 Celtics. Johnson also led the Seattle SuperSonics to their only championship in 1979, earning NBA Finals MVP.
↵↵Yes, this is as yet an unconfirmed report, but something like this would not get erroneously floated. There’s just no way.
↵While Johnson’s resume was dwarfed by the titans surrounding him in Boston, it certainly merited inclusion in the HOF much sooner than today; he was a five-time all-star and made the first or second All-Defense team in nine consecutive years. And yet, one can’t help but wonder if he’d have been recognized had he not passed away so suddenly three years ago.
↵His family, friends, and teammates already knew that DJ belonged among the best, in the Hall of Fame. They may now have the satisfaction of knowing that the Hall of Fame has finally decided to agree with them.
