You’ve heard the expression. People will say, “You make your own luck,” which is symbolic of the belief that things aren’t simply random or totally crazy, but affected by hard work or smart decisions.
Mark Martin: You Can’t Make Your Own Luck
Clearly, Mark Martin is not on board with that belief, which a reporter soon discovered when he asked Martin about “making your own luck” on Friday at Richmond.
"You know, meteorites do hit the earth," Martin said, looking exasperated. "It would be unlucky if one hit you, right? You couldn't say that you made your own luck.
“There are certain things that you don’t have control over. Sometimes a lot of those things get you and sometimes none of those things get you for a good period of time. So call it what you want.”
We’ll go ahead and call that luck.
