Ryan Madson Out Eight Weeks After Surgery
Ryan Madson had surgery Tuesday on his broken toe and will now be out at least eight weeks, according to Ryan Lawrence, Phillies beat writer for the Delco Times.
As a fill-in for Brad Lidge, Madson struggled in nine games. He allowed 13 hits and three walks in nine innings of work. He did strike out 10 batters, though, as one positive before his injury.

Ryan Madson broke his toe after kicking a chair following a frustrating appearance on the mound. That’s enough to make anyone feel stupid. This is more than enough.
Toe surgery generally isn’t the most complicated or significant of surgeries, but it’s looking like Madson will be out for longer than was originally estimated. In the meantime, the Phillies will have to keep leaning on Jose Contreras while they hope that Brad Lidge can get himself comfortable in a hurry. Theirs is a bullpen that’s lacking in the way of strikeout stuff.
