Video: Canadiens Lose Andrei Markov After Matt Cooke Check

I know what you’re thinking; that Matt Cooke sent Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov out of Game 1 with a dirty hit. Nope, it was clean. Get outta here, really? All the Pittsburgh forward is guilty of is a shoulder-to-shoulder collision, which is weird to write. Unfortunately, Markov may not be returning in the near future for Montreal.

↵The Russian left the ice and didn’t place any weight on his right leg, never a good sign. Markov missed 35 games in the regular season because of a sliced tendon in his left foot that occurred during the first game of the year. As Montreal’s best defender, it’s no surprise the Canadiens went 14-20-3 without him and 25-13-7 with him. With his return to the opening match ruled out, Habs fans are praying for his health as we speak.
