Broken Toe Forces Ryan Madson To Disabled List

The Phillies were hoping that they'd have their entire bullpen together after activating Brad Lidge earlier on Friday. Unfortunately, it was not to be, as Ryan Madson's taking Lidge's place on the DL:

Ryan Madson placed on the 15-day DL with a broken right great toe. LHP Antonio Bastardo recalled from Triple-A.

Madson evidently injured his toe after blowing a save but still getting a win on Wednesday. In the early going, the Phillies’ stand-in closer had struck out ten batters in nine innings, but allowed 16 baserunners and seven runs. One of his two blown saves resulted in a loss.

Lidge comes up after undergoing offseason elbow and knee surgeries. Over eight minor league rehab appearances, he struck out eight and walked four in 8.2 innings. Bastardo, meanwhile, comes right back after getting demoted to make room for Lidge.
