2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Pick 37

The second round of the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft rolls along. We're having each SB Nation blogger make selections for their respective teams. JasonB, lead blogger at SB Nation's Philadelphia Eagles blog, Bleeding Green Nation, checks in to make the No. 37 overall selection in this year's mock. Take it away, sir!

With the No. 37 overall pick in the 2010 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles have selected Daryl Washington, LB, TCU.

JasonB says: I really went back and forth on this pick between Washington and looking for help in the secondary, but in the end I just thought I could get players in the secondary that I liked later and that among the remaining LBs that Washington was too good to pass up. His speed makes him a perfect fit for what the Eagles usually look for all over their defense. Given the choice between speed or size they'll choose speed every time. Considering the Eagles could use help at either OLB spot, Washington could easily be a start from day one. He'll be an immediate upgrade in coverage and he'll be faster to the sidelines than anyone they've started in recent years. With middle linebacker Stewart Bradley returning from injury, he and Washington could make for a young and athletic duo at LB for years to come. It's been a long time since the Eagles had a real playmaker at the WILL position and Washington could absolutely be that guy.

This is a young defense and a young team. Adding high character players who show leadership and smarts is going to be important going forward. Washington fits that mold.

Mocking Dan reacts: While I don’t have Washington quite as highly rated as him, this is a great value pick. Jason is dead on thinking there will be secondary help available later in this mock. The team could go safety or cornerback with pick 55 and get a good player. A linebacker as good as Washington probably won’t be around that late.
Mocking the Draft’s Top 5 remaining prospects: 1 - Bruce Campbell/OT/Maryland, 2 - Jonathan Dwyer/RB/Georgia Tech, 3 - Damian Williams/WR/USC, 4 - Rob Gronkowski/TE/Arizona, 5 - Brandon Spikes/LB/Florida

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
