It’s Been A Pretty Good Monday For The Hurley Family
↵Bob Hurley Sr, the legendary high school basketball coach at St. Anthony in New Jersey, was introduced as a Hall of Fame inductee today in Indianapolis. Danny Hurley, a former Rutgers guard and high school coach at national powerhouse St. Benedict’s, also in New Jersey, accepted an offer to coach at Wagner College in Staten Island. His brother Bobby, the former Duke point guard, will join his staff as an assistant.
↵Dan Hurley, who also served as an assistant coach at Rutgers before taking the job at St. Benedict’s, has the contacts and comfort level with the basketball community in the Tri-State area to make an impact at Wagner, which finished just 5-26 last season.
↵Bobby Hurley Jr., who led Duke to NCAA titles in 1991 and 1992, will leave Florida, where has was raising horses, to work under his little brother at Wagner.
↵Bob Hurley Sr. won 24 state titles in 38 seasons at St. Anthony, sending scores of players to top college programs across the country, including Bobby Hurley Jr. (Duke), Roshown McLeod (Rutgers, Duke) and Tyshawn Taylor (Kansas). He is just the third boys high school basketball coach to make it to Springfield.
