Martin Brodeur has been apart of the New Jersey Devils for his entire 17 year career and has won every award and honor under the sun. Many critics though feel that the Devils system is much of the reason for his success. The Devils defense oriented trap gives Brodeur room to see the shots on net and allow him to face less in a game. Bob Harwood Waeghe of From The Rink disagrees with that sentiment:
Is It The System Or Martin Brodeur?
↵↵It didn’t take me long to respond. Marty Brodeur, quite frankly, is one of the best goaltenders of all time.
↵All due respect goes to Lou Lamoriello and his ability to evaluate talent and continually ice a winning team in New Jersey. His franchise has now qualified for the postseason a remarkable 19 of the last 20 seasons.
↵But other than the general manager, who has been the most consistent and successful fixture within the organization? None other than Martin Brodeur.
↵↵While it’s hard to disagree with that notion, Brodeur’s success has a little to do with the system, and the system is so effective because Brodeur is a hall of fame goaltender.
