Thrashers Teammates Hoping Kovalchuk Doesn’t Get Booed In Return

Ilya Kovalchuk is making his return to Atlanta with the New Jersey Devils Tuesday night. Since Kovalchuk turned down a massive offer from the Thrashers, except the hometown fans to be slightly annoyed at the sight of the left winger. Current Thrasher teammates, though, are hoping that the fans don’t lay into him too much:

↵↵“I hope it’s going to be a good crowd and I hope they’re going to take it easy on Kovie,” said Kovalchuk’s good friend Slava Kozlov. “He played hard for us for a long time. He was our captain this year and I hope they’re going to support him. On the other hand, we’ve got a big game and we have to win to stay in the playoff hunt.”

↵↵While Kozlov is a fellow countryman, I wonder if the same feeling resonates throughout the clubhouse. The Thrashers seem to be getting by without him, even though they are currently on the outside looking in for the playoffs. If you were at the game tomorrow, would you boo?
