Cano Homer, Bases-Loaded Walk Gives Yankees Late Win Over Red Sox

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Robinson Cano went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored to help the New York Yankees take a 6-4 win over the Boston Red Sox in the second of a three-game set at Fenway Park.

Nick Swisher had a pair of doubles and an RBI, while Nick Johnson, Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez added an RBI each for the Yankees, who bounced back from a 9-7 Opening Day loss on Sunday.

A.J. Burnett started on the mound and over five innings he was charged with four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Alfredo Aceves (1-0) got the win for throwing two scoreless innings.

Victor Martinez hit a two-run homer and had three RBI while Jacoby Ellsbury went 2-for-5 with two runs scored for the Red Sox, who got an RBI from Kevin Youkilis.

Jon Lester went five innings in the start and was charged with four runs and five hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Hideki Okajima (1-1) was saddled with the loss.

With the score tied in the eighth, the Yankees grabbed the lead.

Okajima started the inning on the mound and gave up a ground-rule double to Jorge Posada. Swisher then grounded out, failing to advance the runner, and Brett Gardner singled to left. Curtis Granderson then flied out, but Derek Jeter reached base on an error from Marco Scutaro. Johnson then worked a walk to score Posada for a 5-4 lead.

Youkilis led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and moved to second on Damaso Marte's errant pickoff throw to first, but he was stranded there as Marte got David Ortiz to fly out and Joba Chamberlain struck out Adrian Beltre and J.D. Drew to end the inning.

Cano gave the Yanks some insurance in the ninth with a one-out, solo homer to right.

Mariano Rivera gave up a one-out double to Scutaro, but then struck out Ellsbury and got Dustin Pedroia to fly out and picked up his first save of the season.

The Red Sox struck in the first inning as Ellsbury led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on the play courtesy of a bad throw from Posada and later crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Youkilis.

The Yankees got the run back in the second as Swisher’s double to right scored Cano, who hit a one-out single.

In the third, the Red Sox grabbed the lead back when Ellsbury led off with a double and, one out later, Martinez drove an 0-1 pitch into the right field bullpen.

New York rallied in the fifth to take the lead. The first three batters reached base to load them up and Teixeira drove in a run when he hit a grounder to third and beat out the double play. Rodriguez then doubled to bring home Jeter and Cano followed with a sacrifice fly to center for a 4-3 advantage.

Boston, though, tied the game back up in the fifth when Pedroia hit a one-out single and Martinez followed with a double to center to score Pedroia.

These teams will wrap up the three-game series on Wednesday with Andy Pettitte taking the mound for New York and John Lackey toeing the hill for the Red Sox...The Yankees left 10 men on base...Beltre went 2-for-4 in the game.
