At age 50, Fred Couples was the oldest player ever to hold a lead after the opening round of the Masters. And that’s probably where the story ends. Couples had a brutal Friday finish, bogeying four of the final five holes, including the last three to drop down to finish 3-over (75) on the day. He’s currently six back of the leader.
Masters Tournament Leaderboard, Second Round Update: Thanks For Stopping By, Freddy
Tiger Woods, owner of the longest active streak of making Masters cuts, shouldn’t have any problems making another one. Currently at the 17th green, he’s -2 on the day and hitting some good balls, including another circus shot from behind the trees that landed about 12 feet of the pin. He’s tied for third overall with a chance to move up.
The big mover of the day so far? Ian Poulter, who shot -4 for back-to-back 68s and is currently tied with Lee Westwood in the lead. Westwood is at -8 halfway through his day.
Looking ahead to the projected cut list, some of the notables currently in danger include Steve Stricker (2), Scott Verplank (2), Padraig Harrington (5), Mark O’Meara (5), Justin Leonard (6), David Duval (6), Stewart Cink (8), Jim Furyk (8) and Vijay Singh (+8).
