Former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen can be a rich man regardless of where he’s drafted in the first round. All that matters now for the young quarterback is how he performs in front of scouts of respective teams seeking a franchise quarterback. On Friday, Notre Dame held their Pro Day in South Bend, Indiana. During the 30-minute throwing session, Clausen completed 57 of 59 passes, “overthrowing wide receiver Robby Parris on two long routes.“ Sixteen teams reportedly observed Clausen’s session -- where he was trying to prove that his surgically repaired toe was healed -- including ”GM Billy Devaney, head coach Steve Spagnuolo and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.” Sports Illustrated writes:
Jimmy Clausen Completes 57 of 59 Passes During Notre Dame’s Pro Day
↵↵Jimmy Clausen’s Friday workout for half the league’s franchises was solid but it’s unlikely scouts came away from Notre Dame thinking he had stamped himself as a Top 10 pick.
↵Yet while most of Clausen’s passes were on the mark, the timing of his throws seemed off at times. His pass placement also was nothing out of the ordinary.
↵Pass catchers were intermittently extending vertically or reaching backwards to make the grab. On a number of occasions Clausen overshot his downfield targets. This is in stark contrast to the workout turned in by Sam Bradford, when receivers rarely broke stride to make the reception.
↵↵One thing that could benefit Clausen is his experience in a Pro Style offense, theoretically allowing his experience to translate in the NFL much quicker than Bradford or McCoy, who may need time to transition from the spread offense in college.
