Quail Hollow Tournament, Round 3 Results: Mayfair Keeps Lead; Love Makes A Charge

Round 3 of the 2010 Quail Hollow Championship ended just like Round 2 ended: with Billy Mayfair alone at the top. Mayfair shot 1-under, which was good enough to retain sole possession of the lead entering the tournament’s final round on Sunday.

Davis Love III shot himself into contention with a bogey-free Round 3. He birdied three of the last five holes to earn a second-place tie with Phil Mickelson, who shot 1-under.

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy had the best day of everyone in the field. McIllroy’s nine birdies helped put him in a five-way tie for seventh place.

This is where things stand at the top of the leaderboard at the conclusion of Round 3:

1. Billy Mayfair (-1 for round, -9 for tourney)
T2. Davis Love III (-4, -7)
T2. Phil Mickelson (-1, -7)
T4. J.J. Henry (-1, -6)
T4. Dustin Johnson (E, -6)
T4. Angel Cabrera (+1, -6)
T7. Rory McIlroy (-6, -5)
T7. Anthony Kim (-2, -5)
T7. Bill Haas (-2, -5)
T7. Jim Furyk (-1, -5)
T7. Paul Goydos (+1, -5)
