Spike TV recently announced that their UFC 115 prelims special will feature a couple of competitive lightweight fights in the form of Tyson Griffin vs. Evan Dunham as well as Mac Danzig vs. Matt Wiman.
Spike TV UFC 115 Prelims To Feature Griffin v Dunham, Danzig v Wiman
The two bouts will air at 9 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. PT on June 12, an hour before the scheduled pay-per-view broadcast is set to air from GM Place in Vancouver.
The embattled Griffin finally notched himself a finish inside the Octagon after knocking off Hermes Franca at UFC 103 last September. The talented Xtreme Couture product is the winner of a staggering five “Fight of the Night” bonuses but had gone to a decision in seven straight bouts dating back to 2006 and taking heat from fans and media alike in his inability to seal the deal -- despite going 6-2 during that span.
The veteran lightweight seemed to be keeping himself out of serious title consideration with his inability to finish, something likely to be forgotten -- and quickly -- if he can make it two stoppages in a row with a premature ending against the crafty grappler.
Dunham has looked invincible since demolishing Per Ecklund in his Octagon debut at UFC 95: "Sanchez vs. Stevenson" in early 2009. He followed that up with a split decision victory over the dangerous Marcus Aurelio at UFC 102: "Couture vs. Nogueira" last August.
The submission specialist cemented his place among the top lightweight prospects with a bona fide ass kicking of Efrain Escudero at last month’s UFC Fight Night 20 event in Fairfax. He made a statement against “Hencho en Mexico” with a grisly armbar that has now gotten him a major step up in competition.
Mac Danzig -- season six welterweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) -- is coming off a win over Justin Buchholz at UFC 109 after suffering three straight losses inside the Octagon against Jim Miller, Josh Neer, and Clay Guida.
Opponent Matt Wiman will carry an 11-5 record into this bout and will be looking to build on the momentum he created with a win over Shane Nelson at UFC 107: “Penn vs. Sanchez” last December. Prior to the Nelson win, “Handsome” didn’t look so pretty against Jim Miller and Sam Stout in consecutive defeats.
UFC 115 will feature a main event of Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 coaches Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell and Rich “Ace” Franklin as well as a main card bout between Pat “Get Hype” Barry and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic.
