So much of the attention surrounding the ever-popular Pittsburgh Steelers defense is focused on Troy Polomalu or James Harrison. Not to say they aren’t deserving, but there’s this guy named LaMarr Woodley - he just registered 13.5 sacks this past season, and hardly anyone noticed.
LaMarr Woodley Can Not Get A Long-Term Deal.... Literally
↵While Woodley has overcome adversity in the past (he registered 12 sacks his senior season at Michigan, only to fall to the 46th overall pick in the NFL Draft), it appears that such adversity has caught up with him once again. LaMarr is on the brink of receiving a long-term contract and due recognition for his efforts from the Steelers, but because his rookie contract was so “miniscule,” he won’t be able to get one.
↵Huh?
↵↵Barring a new collective bargaining agreement, Woodley won’t be getting a new contract anytime soon because of the 30-percent rule that states that new contracts can’t have salaries increasing more than 30 percent above their 2009 level each year.
↵According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Woodley made $460,000 last year under his original rookie deal.
↵↵Cruel? Yes. Surprising? Hardly. This is LaMarr Woodley, folks, and until he sets sack records and finds the cure for cancer, he’s not going to mean JACK. SQUAT.
