The Preakness Was Remarkably Docile As Few Got Their “Preak On”

As previously documented, the infield at The Preakness is not known for sobriety. But despite the $20 all-you-can-drink beer mugs, there were zero arrests and 23 ejections this weekend, according to the Baltimore Sun.↵↵Even the famed running of the urinals seemed toned down thanks to the fact that people can’t BYOB anymore, which means no one is tossing away a drink.↵

↵
↵I tossed the theory out there last week that the all-you-can-drink idea might actually curb drinking because of long lines. That seems to have come to pass:↵↵⇥The complaints: people couldn’t drink fast enough because it took so long first get, and then refill, the bottomless cups of beer. It seems Pimlico struck the balance they wanted -- give back the alcohol but with a catch. Without the bring-your-own kegs, people couldn’t binge drink, and many tended to sober up between gulps.↵↵I actually skimmed YouTube on Monday and again this morning and this was the only really sign of distress I was able to find in the infield.↵

↵While some shirtless bro kicking a girl and throwing a beer is nothing to scoff at, the overall level of crazy seems to have dropped from previous years. Did you go to Pimlico this weekend and see something that didn’t make it into the news? Let us know at blogtips[at]sportingnews.com↵
