Zack Greinke is probably the best pitcher in the AL. He’s the reigning Cy Young winner in the league, his 2010 ERA is now down to 2.27, his WHIP is under 1.00, and he just threw his first complete game of the season, giving up just one run to Tampa Bay.
The Royals Owe Zack Greinke An Apology Or Something
↵Yes, in Greinke’s six starts--five of which yielded two earned runs or fewer--the Royals have gone just 1-5. Their latest “masterpiece” was today’s 1-0 loss at Tampa, where the Royals were shut down by Wade Davis, whom you’ve never heard of.
↵While we don’t expect the winless streak to last all season long--odds dictate that at some point, Greinke will break through in the win column--we do wonder if it’s time to see the first starting pitcher to win the Cy Young award with fewer than 10 wins. Unlikely, yes, but clearly within the realm of plausibility.
↵Oh, and the Royals really need to trade Greinke. Just as a favor to the kid. He doesn’t deserve this garbage.
