Has The Reigning NBA MVP Ever Switched Teams?

Now that LeBron James has won the MVP award, you may be asking yourself, “Has anyone ever won the MVP only to switch teams the following season?” Enter Newsday’s Alan Hahn.

OK, I’ll be that guy: 2xs before have reigning MVP’s left their current teams for a new team: Wilt in ’68 and Moses in ’82. #PardonTheGarden

That said, neither Wilt Chamberlain nor Moses Malone won the NBA championship during their MVP seasons. If Cleveland wins it all in 2010, perhaps James has more of an inclination to stay. Knicks fans will continue to hold their collective breath.
