Fantasy Baseball: Wednesday’s Roto Roundup

There was plenty of injury news on Wednesday headlined by Jorge Posada and Grady Sizemore, who both could miss at least a month.

Here are the rest of my thoughts after reviewing Wednesday's boxscores:

Posada fractured his foot and could be out up to a month. Does this lead to catching prospect Jesus Montero getting the call? He is hitting around .230 in AAA, so he is off to a slow start.

Grady Sizemore had an MRI on his knee on Wednesday and was placed on the DL with a left knee bruise, but reports say he could require surgery. Ouch.

Red Sox starter Josh Beckett was placed on the DL with a lower back strain. I wonder if he strained watching all the hits he gave up over the last month or so.

The Rays stole 6 bases off of AJ Burnett/Francisco Cervelli on Wednesday with Evan Longoria and BJ Upton stealing two bags apiece. Is it me, or are teams running more this season?

I know it is only May 19th, but Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is only hitting .213-.337-..400 with 7 HRs and 30 RBI. He is still on pace for a 28-122 season, but the BA has to worry fantasy owners at this point.

Nationals pitching prospect Drew Storen earned his first major league win by getting 2 outs in the 7th inning vs the Mets on Wednesday. Matt Capps earned his 15th save of the season, but did give up a HR to Fernando Tatis.

Mets third baseman David Wright got the night off on Wednesday after striking out 3 times, once with the winning run on third base, and making an error that cost the Mets the game on Tuesday night. Is it time to trade one of Jose Reyes or David Wright? The Mets have lost 2 of 3 since owner Fred Wilpon made a special trip down to Atlanta on Monday.

Indians closer Kerry Wood blew the save as he gave up 5 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks vs the Royals. Wood was only able to get one out. Chris Perez may get another look as the Indians closer.

Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz pitched another germ in winning his 5th game of the season. Buchholz held the Twins to 2 runs on 5 hits and a walk, while striking out 7. He induced 11 ground ball outs, and lowered his ERA to 3.26. He is starting to live up to the hype from two years ago.
