I regularly hear Nationals fans kvetch about their booth crew, especially Rob Dibble, but I hadn’t watched a Nats broadcast until today. Here’s what I saw over the course of about 45 minutes.
The Washington Nationals Televised Broadcast Experience
1. The guys were talking about field visibility from various places within the park.
“I couldn’t see much from down there.”
“I thought you said you liked it from down there.”
[pause]
“HAW HAW HAW”
The next two items require screencaps. Check them out after the jump.
2. Ryan Zimmerman started running from first on a fly ball hit to right-center. The ball was caught, but Zimmerman was ready to pass Cristian Guzman on the basepaths until Guzman fervently exhorted him to stop being such a dummy.
One of the voices from the booth (sorry, can’t pick them apart, but my gut tells me it was Dibble): “Well, you know, Guzman did it the right way. Gettin’ him to get back. And you know, Zimmerman did a good job too... when you tag up, you’ve got to go back and touch second.” Friend, I’m pretty sure the only person who does not know that is Wilton Guerrero.
3. All right, this one is kind of cruel. I have to present these conditionally: it was raining off and on in Washington, and it was a sunny day in Oakland. But still:
3a. Giants-Athletics in Oakland, 9th inning, one-run lead.
3b. Orioles-Nationals in DC, 7th inning, one-run lead.
