John Fogerty Goes To Cooperstown, Shockingly Not As Center Fielder
“Centerfield,” John Fogerty’s wistful little ditty about the populist mythos of baseball that may or may not even exist anymore, will become the first song celebrated at the National Baseball Hall of Fame when Fogerty performs the song at the induction ceremony July 25.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the release of the song, which was the titular track on Fogerty’s comeback album. If you’ve spent as much as four innings at a Major League ballpark, you’re no doubt familiar with the clapping intro. This development, no doubt, leaves the door open for other songs to be recognized by the Hall. Given the number of players using “Party in the USA” as jokey batting music this year, we’ll be seeing Miley Cyrus in Cooperstown in no time at all.
