Here’s a general rule, educators of America: do not fight your students in class. Remember this woman in Houston from about a month ago? This kind of stuff never ends well. Sadly, my “do not fight minors” memo did not make it out in time before this video was recorded.↵

Miss. State Football Signee Shows Algebra Teacher That A + B = PAIN!

↵The young man in the white t-shirt is Jamerson Love, a Mississippi State football signee. He’s a two-star corner, according to Scout.com, but maybe his true calling is in wrestling. That’s just an outstanding takedown/chokeout.↵↵The other man in the video, you know the one who should be acting like an adult, is Shobul Johnson, an algebra teacher at Aberdeen High School in Mississippi. Well, let me rephrase: he was an algebra teacher there.↵
↵↵⇥Shobul Johnson, an algebra teacher at Aberdeen High School, was allegedly fired Wednesday, May 19 after an in-class wrestling match with Aberdeen football standout Jamerson Love.↵⇥↵⇥According to an eyewitness who shot the following video, Johnson asked his students to “blackout the windows in his classroom and move the furniture” before the roughhousing ensued.↵⇥
↵⇥↵⇥According to Love, the incident was “blown out of proportion.”↵⇥
↵↵↵Now, as much as I want to agree with Love that it looked like it was all in good fun, teachers can’t get caught up in trying to be one of the guys with a bunch of minors. It’s a slippery slope, and the firestorm of reaction to that teacher I linked to in the first paragraph also tells us that violence between students and teachers, as it turns out, is still very much a hot-button topic. ↵
↵↵The article from monroe360.com I linked to above the quote is confusing because it says the teacher was dismissed, but later says “Johnson’s employment status is not known at this time.” Perhaps it was just a sloppy edit. Because there seemed to be no real malice, part of me hopes Johnson can learn from it and move on without losing his job.↵
