The Frontier League: Land of the Lawless Bus Drivers

Dmitri Young, a two-time All-Star, isn’t playing any more, but he’s working as a hitting instructor for the Oakland County Cruisers in the Frontier League. That is relatively unremarkable. What’s interesting is the nugget uncovered on Sirius XM MLB Network Radio (via D.C. Sports Bog) about a recent incident with his team.↵↵⇥Young: “The bus driver, the old bus driver I should say, stole the bus and the team had to basically show and go. They drove from Michigan all the way to outside of Cleveland, that’s like a three-and-a-half hour drive. They got here about 30 minutes before the game. We lost 3 to 2 last night but there was a lot of heart for those kids being on the bus. They were supposed to be here about 1 o’clock in the afternoon but, like I said, long bus story I can tell on another day.”↵↵But fear not: the bus has been recovered! More details from the Oakland Press:↵↵⇥Police said a report was filed Tuesday by Cruisers baseball officials about the commercial bus being taken. Police then learned the 49-year-old bus driver from Detroit was supposed to take the bus in to be repaired. Police said he then got into a dispute over the phone with Cruisers officials over funds and refused to return the bus. On Wednesday police recovered the bus in Detroit.↵↵The team owners aren’t pursuing any sort of charges in the incident.↵
