It was a bit controversial when ESPN announced they’d be broadcasting live from South Africa throughout the 2010 World Cup. Will they dumb down “the beautiful game” to appeal to American audiences? Do they have the analysts to do justice to announcing all 64 matches? And with the added emphasis from ESPN, will we be forced to endure massive oversaturation, thereby ruining one of the greatest traditions in sports? All fair questions, and the jury’s still out.
What Does It Feel Like To Score A Goal In The World Cup Final?
↵But in the meantime, ESPN’s cynics should check out this feature. Over at ESPN.com, they interviewed World Cup heroes from the past 60 years, asking them to describe what it meant to score a goal in the World Cup final. It’s real, chill-inducing stuff, with players spanning generations, from countries throughout the world.
↵Even if you hate the “Worldwide Leader,” it’s tough to criticize this feature, and it’s just as difficult to imagine any other outlet having the resources to pull it off. So... Well done, ESPN.
↵And if you’re bored on Memorial Day, check it out.
