On June 9, 2009, the Nationals selected Stephen Strasburg with the number one overall pick. Almost exactly one year later, the once-in-a-lifetime prospect will make his Major League debut when he takes the hill against the Pirates on Tuesday, June 8.
Nationals On Strasburg: ‘We Believe He Is Ready To Go’
The Nationals made the official announcement Monday evening.
“Along with [pitching coordinator] Spin Williams and pitching coach Steve McCatty, we had a plan in place since Spring Training [for Strasburg],” Rizzo said. “We believe he is ready to go. We like that Stephen could bounce back from tough outings.”
Assuming no rainouts or injury, Strasburg will make his final Minor League start for Syracuse on Thursday, in Buffalo, and then toe the rubber in Nationals Park five days later.
