According to MMA Weekly Phil Baroni will be making a return to the 185 pound division after an unsuccessful UFC campaign at welterweight. Baroni was recently posting comments on Twitter that seemed to hint at a possible retirement but now it looks like he’ll be on the card in Boston at UFC 118 (New York Badass in Boston? I sense boos on the way).
Phil Baroni Returns To Middleweight To Face John Salter At UFC 118
MMA Weekly had the following to say about Salter:
Facing Baroni in Boston will be Alabama fighter John Salter (5-1) who had an unfortunate ending to his last fight in the UFC when opponent Jason MacDonald snapped his leg in the first round of their fight at UFC 113 in May.
An accomplished wrestler, Salter has also taken home titles at several grappling tournaments and posted an undefeated record in MMA before stepping in on 6 days notice to face Gerald Harris in January. Salter lost the bout in the third round, but definitely showed up to fight and now looks to build on his last performance when he faces Baroni in August.
While Salter is the less experienced fighter his mixture of wrestling and submission grappling are going to cause a lot of trouble for Baroni.
Baroni, who has gone 3-5 since 2007, desperately needs to pull off a victory to avoid dropping to .500 overall and likely being released from his UFC contract.
